Of All The Stinking, Rotten, No Good…

I have been struggling with internet connectivity this last week. Getting a simple story to post has been a pain. Even getting connected to catch emails is a slow process and even as I am about to write todays tale, I am unable to get enough band width to upload photos so you will have to get by with just words until I can scrounge up a guru with enough knowledge of spotty cell service to get me back on the right path. I’m about to go all Yosemite Sam on my computer and phone.
But enough of the grumping, here is the real story of the day.

When Muhammad Doesn’t Stay At The Mountain

It was just before hay season when the herd sire Sky High, AKA Twinkle Toes McGee, AKA Muhammad decided he did not want to be moved by stock trailer away from his main herd and across the county road, up the driveway, through a couple of electrified fences and to the barnyard of new female companions by the show barn. His escape was miraculous, death defying, quick and most certainly the most stealthy caper we have had the chance to witness even though it was completely after the fact.

For those of you who are left in the dark, a quick recap. We moved Sky High from one herd to the show barn so he could breed the few girls we have close to the house. We were in a rush in order to get the bull situated before the busy hay season. He cleared fences, tip toed through the newly planted garden and disappeared without a trace until we found him a couple of hours later back with his original herd grazing peacefully amongst the cows that he was familiar with.

The whole effort was put on hold until the end of hay season.

Since Muhammad refused to stay at the mountain that we placed him at and made amazing escape, we decided we would bring the mountain, AKA the three unbred heifers that had been residing at the show barn, to Muhammad.

We loaded the three into the stock trailer and reversed from our previous haul. From the show barn, through a couple of electric fences, down the county road, through the logging gate and out into the pasture where the main herd was grazing. Muhammad was delighted when three females joined his harem. Now I hope everyone will stay where they are supposed to!

Muhammad’s story today reads, “Stubborn humans finally get the message.”
