Beyond the FarmIn the BarnIn the Fields

Doing What It Takes

While the power was out we spent quality time getting ready for when the electricity was once again available.

With the help of the tractor we were able to dig out some wood that needed to be sawed and split before moving into the barn for splitting with the Super Split tabletop splitter that can transform the chunks into firewood bundle or kindling sized pieces.

The packed snow surface made for an easy time to get the chunks small enough to load onto the pallet on the front of the tractor loader and moved to the barn.

We also moved cribs full of dry firewood from the splitting barn and across the river to the bundling barn so it would be available for wrapping once the power was back on since the bundler runs off of electricity.

Doing what it takes with whatever circumstances are currently impeding our plans seems to be the only way to get from point A to point B around here. Making a daily list is useless when priorities change with a snowfall, a gust of wind, an errant bull or a cow that is calving. This was a productive day in the fact that once the power is back on, we are ready to get to work.

If you tried to follow a daily list, you would go crazy. Best to make the best of what comes your way. I measured 2.3 inches in my rain gauge this morning, some of which was snow. We would have been buried in snow if the temperature hadn’t moved past the freezing mark yesterday.
