Wood Cribs
With the landing full of small logs and our own firewood stack full, it is time to start the next project.
Mike has been building cribs to hold cut wood as it cures. This one was assembled by the shop and set onto the Gator ready to be moved across the river by the landing. Jackson loaded up and was willing to hold the crib in place as we hauled it across.
Each crib holds about a half-cord of 16 inch chunks of firewood. The wood is stacked into three rows in the structure of the crib and the entire half-cord can be moved easily into the barn where the curing process will dry and preserve the wood.
This finished crib has a plywood top on it to keep birds ploop and debris from marring the end result.
The crib design has been working well, and it is easy to move even partially filled ones into the barn when weather becomes an issue.
This crib was only about a third full, but was moved inside when the forecast called for rain. It will be moved back to the landing to be filled.
With these moveable cribs we can utilize all the available space in the barns. These two cribs have found their nitch located near the hay stacker and the harvest of hay bales. The bull barn and the show barn will also make room for cribs as they are filled.
