In the GardenIn the Kitchen

When I Thought I Was Done

I considered myself done with dehydrating fruits from the garden, but I underestimated the amount of Asian Pears on the dwarf tree that is nearly hidden in the corner.

I was afraid the 28 degree nighttime temperatures would  ruin the fruit so I picked a box full to keep in the garage and eat them fresh. After a few days, I picked the rest of the fruit off the tree to pass out to neighbors, friends and family. Even after distribution, I still had two boxes of pears and have been eating them as fast as possible. Pears for breakfast, pears with cheese at lunch, cubes pears with walnuts, dried cranberries and crumbled goat cheese for salad at dinner were just not using them up fast enough.

I am now on my third dehydrator load of eight trays each and I finally am down to being able to see the bottom of the last box of Asian Pears.

Our little dwarf tree was sure loaded this year.
