Two, No, Three Of Three
After the several weeks of returning salmon from the ocean for spawning, and for the second wave of the slower, larger salmon coming upstream after the storms brought the water level even higher in the river we noticed the bald eagles had moved on to richer feeding grounds.
The family of three, one rather large and mottled in color with two iconic colored bald eagles, had scrammed when the carcasses of the spawned out salmon had been cleaned up from the stream banks. The skies had been devoid of the family even though the elk hunting seasons that had left remains available.
This morning, I spotted one of the bald eagles along with the mottled on sitting in one of the tall snags by the river. They were chattering to each other and would take flight once and a while to do a little sky-dancing and chasing each other before again landing in the same tree. It wasn’t until I was nearly done with the chores when I spotted the other bald eagle sitting in his/her own tree a couple of meanders from the pair.

Such a treat. I love that a scavenger bird is so majestic and an icon of strength and beauty. All things have their place in this world.
