Two Fer
A while back I had mentioned that I needed a name for the feral black kitten that I have semi-tamed and now has become my work buddy when on this side of the river. My awesome, talented, funny and impressive readers came up with some really cool ideas and what did I do with all those ideas? I came up with a totally different name than the cool ones.
It began with a feral male cat that is nearly a year older than the black kitten. He didn’t have a name either, it didn’t seem to bother him that he didn’t have a name so it didn’t bother me. We just called him that Siamese-looking male. While I was slowly befriending the little black kitten, the Siamese-looking male noticed the little one getting attention and he started coming around to get petted at the same time. Both the kitten and the Siamese-looking one now let me pick them up and both will purr even though it is short lived and they want down fairly quickly. They both will come running when I am bringing dinner out to the barn.
The Siamese-looking male is very vocal, he meows for not reason other than that I look his direction or talk to him, it always sounds like he is saying “Me, Mee, Mee, Meee” instead of meow like most felines. Instead of calling him the Siamese-looking male, I started calling him “Me.” The kitten has lost his mama a couple of weeks ago when she tried mousing too close to the county road and got ran over. Since then the un-named kitten had been sidling up to and cuddling with “Me”. When the pair of them came walking intertwined from the barn, I inadvertently said out loud, “Well here comes Me and my shadow.” Now the name has stuck, the kittens name now is “Shadow.” But I’m keeping all those cool names I collected for future cats.
