Beyond the FarmIn the Woods

This Ain’t That

Did you check? Yesterday was August 1st and it signaled the time to start checking the fog in your area. According to the wise and sometimes true Old Farmer’s Almanac. Many years ago I had read that by observing and recording the fog in August, one could predict how the winter was going to play out.

In my area, that meant  any fog days told of colder than average temperatures with more days of snow likely. Less foggy days for August bespoke of a milder winter with less snow events.

I have been observing, recording and documenting both the foggy August days and the snow days of winter. I am still working on trying to be convinced that The Old Farmer’s Almanac does correctly correlate a foggy pattern in August lending to a snowy atmospheric pattern for the wintertime. So I take the findings with a grain of salt, maybe a pinch, or a teaspoon.

For the month of August, I will continue with my documentation and keep ya’ll posted as to what the winter may look like.

fog in trees on hillside
August 1st

August 1st showed a light marine layer floating around the tops of the trees on the hillside. I did not consider it much of a fog because it burned off just before the sun broke the horizon, so this ain’t that.
