Strawberries End Season

I spent more than an hour yesterday, combing through the bedraggled strawberry bushes looking for the last few berries of the season. I ended up with a mere 4 cups of the delicious berries.

This has been a good strawberry crop. We have been eating and gifting for a full month, I have several bags of dried strawberries, and a freezer full of frozen berries to last all winter long.

Over the next week or two, I will get the mower out and clip off all the bushes before tilling the wildly growing plants and runners into rows. From there, they will get good watering for a couple weeks so the bushes can re-establish themselves before the fall sets in. The 2 rows of the old berries will be plowed under for good now that the new patch is fully established and they are producing enough runners for several rows of new plants.
