Stranded
A surprise visitor showed up some where between the third and fourth day after the heavy rains stopped. Just how far the visitor traveled is a mystery. A full sized log had been swept along by the swift current and beached itself just above the cattle crossing. If the visitor would have showed up earlier by merely an hour or two, it would have continued on downstream to the ocean.
The stranded log is a deterrent to the natural flow of the river when the water is nearly back to normal range. Since this is untethered log is going to wash sediment around the crossing creating unusual channels, we will need to remove the log once the river level recedes.
An alder tree was also deposited one hundred feet upstream from the log. The tree itself is not as big as the first visitor but it still has its root ball attached. It is on the far side of the river below a steep bank. That one is going to have to stay where it is stuck since we have no way to get to it unless another high-water event moves it to an easier to reach location.

Will the log make good firewood?
Yet to be determined…
