In the BarnIn the Woods

Spoke Too Soon

firewood stacked in barnA few weeks ago I was feeling pretty smug about the amount of firewood I had managed to squirrel away in the barn for upcoming bundling.

That was about the time cooler weather moved into the area, the rains soaked the parched ground and the burn ban was lifted. I have been tearing through those stacks of firewood like crazy with unprecedented volumes of orders coming from the Oregon Woodland Co-Op retail outlets.

Loaded, tarped pickup in barnBundling and delivery of completed bundles have been keeping me so busy that I have not had much of a chance to get across the river to cut more firewood from the log decks Mike has waiting for me. Of course I did take some time to meander around the woods and pick mushrooms rather than cut wood, but it is possible that I should have concentrated on the dwindling cache of wood that is ready to bundle. Now is the time to buckle down and get some cords cut, split and back under cover before I run out.

If you hear the power saw or the Super Splitter running, I am working in the production zone…

You had your priorities right when mushrooming took precedent. I know you will catch up. I think I hear the splitter working right now and it is just barely daylight.
