Something Is Wrong

Even though I complain about technology and my sometimes inability to make it work for me, I have to say that this ZOOM business is pretty darn amazing. I am on several boards and attend meetings, for the board or for fun as in book club, writing class and storytellers group, quite often. In the past, these things took me away from the farm for much longer than they do now. For a simple meeting, driving there would be a minimum of 30 minutes with some of them being a couple of hours away. Then the meeting before the drive back home.

Now it seems that the meetings are coming my way with ever increasing regularity. The other evening I was actually scheduled for three meetings. One started at 5:30, one at 6 and yet another at 7pm.

I showed up late for the first meeting by not getting the evening chores done until 5:55 and scooting into my office to dial up the first ZOOM. Since I had now committed to the first meeting I was able to move my connection via my phone into the kitchen to clean the mushrooms that I had picked during the day by putting myself on mute without sharing my video with the rest of the meeting attendees. During my cleaning frenzy, I missed the second meeting completely but really enjoyed the first meeting  of the evening.

By the time the 7pm ZOOM started, I was able to log in. Once I got admitted to the meeting and did the virtual meet/greet/sign-in, I once again went mute without video and got the cleaned mushrooms dry saute-ing, before getting the whole batch into the big kettle for pickling. There was a lot of information given on this second meeting and I had to jot a few notes as important stuff was brought up but did not have enough hands to unmute to ask any questions of the speakers while getting the mushrooms pickled. By the time the 7pm meeting was finished, I had my mushrooms all jarred up and the lids were popping thereby signalling the jars being sealed.

jarred mushroomsFeeling satisfied that I was able to attend two meetings in one evening, I took a deep breath and realized how exhausted I was. Man, these ZOOM meetings are a lot tougher than just going to a meeting now and again. Or maybe I’m doing it wrong…

I always wondered why some Zoom members went dark. Now I know, but do you suppose too much multi-tasking might be tiring you out?
