Using old tires to protect the cement pad from bulldozer track damage

Now that we have the logging dozer on the house-side of the river, Mike figured he would get to fixing a nagging drain field that had the discharge from the pump-house a muddy mess all spring and summer. When he said he wanted to dig a little ditch, I had originally assumed he was going shovel a trench to take out the failing drain.

The old line was a perforated plastic tile that had collapsed over the years. The rock that had been used to close the ditch originally and big hoofy print traffic of bulls over the years had rendered the tile useless and the whole thing needed a re-do.

Ditch made by bulldozer

It was a muddy mess but Mike opened up the trench with the dozer and extracted the ruined tile. He left the trench open for a couple of days to dry the mud and rock giving him enough time to get back to the business of taking down the sick tree that was the reason for moving the dozer in the first place.
