Screamin’ Chicken Update
Over the last couple of weeks, the frightened kitten now named Screamin’ Chicken, has really taken to be a friendly sort. When I walk toward the garden with some cat kibble I sing the song from Sesame Street “There are chickens in the trees. Oh there are chickens in the trees…” and Screamin’ Chicken will come running from wherever she is hiding to chow down. The tree thing is how she got her name.
By the second sentence in the stanza, Screamin’ Chicken will drop out of whatever tree she is currently hiding in and will come running.
After her meal she will follow me throughout the garden. She finds a way to walk right between my feet to get a good rub with my left foot as it steps into the soft earth, then veers to the right foot as it steps down. She zig-zags her way in whatever direction I go purring to beat the band. She really enjoys to be picked up and petted before being set down to go on her merry way.
Her favorite spot to chow down is at the bench at the edge of the garden beneath the crab apple tree and close to a hidey spot under the bench in case one of the mean older cats stray away from the barn duties.
As for my suggested lunch at the restaurant that this kitten was named after, that hasn’t happened yet. Actually no lunches have happened yet, seems like any time I get away from the farm is just to deliver firewood, pick up apples for our fruit loving cows, or quick grocery trips. I’m still planning on visiting the Screamin’ Chicken in Gaston one of these days now that the weather has definitely turned more autumn than summer.
(For those who would like to see the Sesame Street song on You Tube, type in Sesame Street chickens in the trees. I cannot seem to add it as a link.)
I just Googled the song – what fun. It’s hard to believe I’d never heard “Chickens in the Trees” from Sesame Street. I certainly watched and loved the show a lot in the 70’s. Maybe the song is newer than my kids toddler days. How is your screaming chicken at catching mice? Her skill at sneaking up on them may be squelched by her screaming.
