Say It Ain’t So
I got some horrible news and it wasn’t just from one source, it has now been confirmed by two different suppliers. It is a poor fig year.
I had no idea that there was such a thing as a poor fig year. Yet my sources are telling me that this is indeed on of those rare years where the figs that normally abundantly produce are only ripening a few compared to the hundreds of pounds of a typical year.
This is a devastating turn of events. I look forward to fig season all year. I love to dehydrate figs and share them with my mix of apples, pears, peaches, plums and strawberries that I call emergency fruit.
My number one supplier told me to come and get a few for fresh eating and even with an extra tall orchard ladder I only got a smattering of the green globes. If you are one of those people that has a tree tucked away in a corner of your property that has figs and you are not hoarding them, please give me a call and I will glean you crop for you!
