So many times I get caught up with the go, go, go and wanting to formulate the next idea into a story to share, that I forget the majesty of the world around me. I have to admit that happened this last week with needs of the farm, the cold weather and a busy stretch of meetings. I didn’t realize that I missed some of the glorious natural beauty until I pulled that magic SD chip out of my camera and slipped it into the computer for inspiration about the story that wanted to be written today.
Never claiming to be any good at it, I like to take pictures to enhance the farm stories, but many times (and for no particular reason) I will slide the camera out of my pocket and snap away just for the sake of having stock pictures available if I would ever need one in an upcoming story. Most times the photos are of the landscape, mud, dry grass, dogs, cats, cows, all the usual stuff I see every day.
Once in a while the sunrise or sunset is so glorious that I cannot help but grab a few shots. There have been lots of pictures of the firewood project, or the many extra cords of wood needed to heat our own house. New calves are always a favorite to me and to many of my readers so I become a master sleuth to hunt down any missing momma cow in search of newborn pictures.
From turning the earth at the first dry spell of the spring to last of the root crops in late November, pics of the garden pop up regularly in the farm stories. Readers hear about the fun, the foibles, the over-abundance, and my special ‘tired’ potatoes’ of the home garden.
Readers see the broken equipment, the freshly washed pickup (this is a VERY rare phenomenon), dogs with a pile of fresh dirt pile on the tip of their nose from digging where they are not supposed to. There are pictures of new kittens, and old felines watching over the barn. There are lots of pictures of cows in the field, cows in the barn, cows laying down, cows standing up, cows destroying the newly created wood stack or scratching an itch on the log deck.
But today, I’m going to share the scenes on the farm from this last week. Just the first snow of the season that draped the farm like a luxurious blanket. It’s all because when I slid the SD chip into the computer for a glimpse of the story I wanted to write today, I realized the beauty that surrounded me during the busy, busy week was not wasted after all but captured with random shots as the days went by. So the pictures will tell the story today much better than I ever could.
so glad you shoot randomly. imagine what these would be if you meant them to be beautiful
Me and my little camera make quite the pair.
So glad you take the time to “smell the roses” in your busy day and share the beauty with us.
More like smelling the snow, just like the dogs when they are out there bulldozing around the pasture!
