Ready For Next Move
The four calves we have been pampering in the show barn are now ready for the next part of their lives. All of them have had their green weaning nose clips removed and are eating grain and hay with gusto.
The two bulls will be moved out to the bull pen with the other yearlings where they will learn to fend for themselves during feeding time. They will have a much larger pen in which to hang out with big trees to graze around.
The two smaller animals, the steer from the last batch of twins, and a heifer will be moved in with the five heifers we have on the far side of the show barn. They will have the large pasture area behind the house and open access to a pen in the barn when they chose to be inside and to eat in the manger.
This is the last batch of weaning calves we will have for a while since Francie calf is the next one up. She has never considered herself a calf and is part of the main herd although she was born in September, it will be March or later before we wean her.
