In the BarnIn the Fields

Pleasingly Stuck

black cat by gateThe pretty spring day with sunshine and warm weather greeted me on my to the show barn to do my chores. Shadow, the now adolescent kitten, had been soaking up the rays.

When I got near he squeeked as if he were stuck under the edge of the heavy barn gate. He looked up at me as if I needed to extricate him from a predicament.

As I got closer, I could see that it was not a look of an anxious or hurt critter, but a contented draping across the warmed bars of the gate in the bright sunshine.

Shadow would try to begin a purr, I had never noticed him purr before, then squeek with delight.

Although he didn’t fully get the hang out of the purring that comes so naturally to some of the other felines in the feral barn group, Shadow seemed to be happy all the same.

He was finding happiness in the beautiful day, the warmth of the sun, and no interference from the other critters. Here is to hoping that you get a chance to squeek with delight at something you find.

You can read about my latest squeak with delight in the May Forest Forum with the picture titled “Lupine Diamonds.”
