Mixed Weather

We had a brief, heavy rain shower roll through about 4am. Near sunrise, the temperature had dropped to 31 degrees and all the mud puddles had a skim of ice across the the top.

By noon, the skies had cleared and we took to working out along the flooded fence line to repair and replace silt covered broken wires and broken posts. The breeze was still cool from sweeping off Cochran which had a covering of snow from the early morning shower, but the day was productive.

We use both cedar posts and metal T posts in the fence line and keep the top wire lower than four feet. We have found that by constructing and repairing fences this way, the elk herds that roam to and fro can both see the fence and can jump it easily. The cows respect the fences and don’t try to jump over them.
