Missed It By That Much
I was out in the show barn working on a few bundles when I realized it was time to start the evening chores. I realized this fact because the calf Uproar and his mother Quiet came up from the woods and were staring at me with the look of intense hunger.
I had moved 3T and Stormy out of their own pen earlier in the day so they could go play and lounge around the woods during the rain system that was pelting the area. Uproar had wanted to get acquainted with the new calf and had been hovering around the electric fence trying to get good sniffs of the latest addition to the farm. Since I didn’t want 3T getting the idea to plop down next to the fence line where it would be easy to get up on the wrong side, I moved the pair in with Quiet and Uproar. The four of them went down in the woods right after I had opened the gate for them all to be together.
While Uproar and Quiet came up to the barn for dinner. 3T decided he was hungry half-way to the barn so Stormy obliged by standing still while he nursed. By the time I was ready to start feeding, the pair had made it as far as the wooden fence. 3T had already moved through the gate while Stormy wanted to take a moment or two to scratch a couple of itches on the rough wood. 3T made the most his time while fighting the fence while waiting on his mama to complete her gyrations.
I had pulled my phone out and was jockeying through the apps to locate the camera one since the scene was perfect for a story. Slow loading and my ineptitude about hitting the correct buttons caused the reason to restart my phone. It was a picture perfect moment for nearly a minute, when I finally got the phone to cooperate, Stormy had completed her scratching and had come through the gate to join in the walk to the barn. I had missed it by mere seconds, it is a good thing they are just so cute that even without the perfect pic the scene is wonderful.
