Loaded With Tomatoes
My 24 tomato plants were growing taller than my head before they became too top heavy and began to break down their cages and tip over. Frantic propping with sticks brought the plants back up to chest level but they continue to strain as the fruit grows and gets heavier.
Daily harvesting has become the norm and we are passing full containers to friends and neighbors on a daily at every opportunity.
I’m hoping for another month before heavy frost hits the plants. If I can plan ahead of the first frost, a plant can be pulled up and hung in the garage while the tomatoes on the vine ripen. Nature doesn’t always give me the opportunity to make the saving dash into the garden since I do not like to slash a plant until the very last minute.
