In Need Of A Warm Snuggle
I check the weather station before I head outside in the morning. This is especially important this time of year when it is still very dark out there and I need to be geared suitably in order to remain comfortable during chores and tasks. I tend to get cranky if my feet get cold or wet, or I need a rain jacket on when I don’t have one handy, or if my hands need gloves.
When I checked this morning it said 31 degrees so I knew I would need some warm clothes, and the rain we had been having has the ground a real sog-fest with puddles sitting on roads and in the pastures. I took my time getting a warm coat on over the top of a down vest, a comfy stocking cap that covered my ears and my waterproof winter gloves before exiting the garage.
My typical route takes me out to the show barn first to begin feeding the critters, but on this morning I headed toward the shop to untether the dogs and take them for their morning ‘poop walk’. I surprised Jackson first as I undid his tether and hooked his walking strap on then moved around the wall to untether the other dog. Butler was still inside his house but came out when he saw me, and then Screamin’ Chicken walked out of the house also.
Seems that the cold evening had both the kitten Screamin’ Chicken and Butler the dog in need of a warm snuggle. It had me remembering the old story about the night being so cold that trappers would snuggle with their hunting dogs for warmth with the coldest being ‘a three dog night’. We are not nearly that far into the cold season and I’m not sure where Butler would round up more cats who would be willing to share his house with him, but Screamin’ Chicken would be a good way to spend some quality snuggle time.
Screamin’ Chicken is a hoot. If the cats don’t like him, why not a dog? And Butler is smart enough to know a good warm snuggle when one is offered.
