His Own Resting Spot
Seems like the cows are not the only ones around here that are spending a lot of time looking for comfy areas to take a little cat nap. When we are doing the chores across the river with the main herd and the smaller herd in the nursery field, the farm dogs have a good time running around. Their favorite activity is (as disgusting as it is) searching for baby poop from the young calves. Both dogs hoover their way around the pastures looking for those little nuggets with their noses right and ground level and their feet taking them in concentric circles in quick fashion.
Jackson actually will wake a calf from a nap just so that it will stand up and poop, that is as long as the cow is willing to let the dog mess around her baby or if she is not currently paying attention.
Before we can get the chores done, which is about an hour, both dogs are spent and usually ready to jump onto the Gator for the ride over the bridge and to the house. But on this day, Jackson didn’t come when the Gator started up. I looked into the dark barn and could just barely see his eyes sticking out of a pile of hay along the manger. He had commandeered Plum’s breakfast for his own bed.
It took me actually walking into the barn and snapping his leash on him before I was able to coerce him to abandon his napping spot and onto the Gator. Whatever he had been doing while Mike and I was busy with the feeding must have really tired him out because when we did get him to his area and dog house he spent most of the rest of the day lounging around until it was time for the evening feedings.
With all this napping going on around here you would think we were in the dead of winter, oh wait, we are in the dead of winter. Maybe I should find a comfy spot to curl up for a quick nap!
