Getting Another Round Ready
We moved the main herd to the small field near the barn so we could bring the cattle into the barn for sorting. It was time for the next round of weaning.
We fluffed up some hay in the manger and the whole herd moved into the barn. We were able to bring the three oldest calves left in the herd into the far pen. One bull calf stuck his head in the stanchion (head gate) and locked himself in to eat hay. Mike was able to insert the green weaning clip and the bull went right to eating while we pinned the other bull and one heifer to get their weaner clips inserted.
Once the three calves were wearing their new green jewelry, we turned the whole herd out to cross the field and river to graze in the far, far field for a few days while the mothers of the weaners dried up their milk supply.
