In the Garden

First Tomato

Aripe cherry tomato on a plant with a green tomato next to it.Taaa Daaa! My first tomato of the season.

It may not seem like a big thing, but to me, the taste of a tomato straight from the garden is one of the greatest things in life. I look forward to eating them right off the bush. Later on, when they are more plentiful, I use them in salads and cooking and salsa; lots and lots of salsa. I freeze tomato smash (it is just like it sounds) to add to sauces during the winter. I slice and dry them in the dehydrator for snacking and for cooking. I used to do much more canning than I do these days. It is a hot summer habit that I was willing to put by the wayside.
