Fall Colors
Typically, the autumn in Western Oregon is aglow with orange, yellow and red colors. But it has been a tough year for the deciduous trees. The fall colors do not seem as vibrant this year.
When the sun is shining on the trees during the cold morning hours, the trees almost look like it is a regular year. But the white frost disappears shortly after daybreak.
The dry east wind event last month pulled a lot of moisture out of the leaves just before we have several days of cold weather with the temps in the mid-20’s at night. The leaves basically freeze-dried right on the tree with many still having the tint of green in the midst of turning brown while all curled up and hanging onto their branches.
Many of the alder leaves dropped early and the trees along the river are already winter-bare leaving the large leaf maples and vine maples to try to make a showing. The trees are ready for a cold break to put them into hibernation until spring.

I’ve noticed the same lack of color – also lack of leaves falling. I agree with your assessment that the horrible east summer wind is the culprit.
