Crab Apples And Sneakers

The crab apple trees are loaded this year. Millions of marble sized fruit, yellow in color turning to a soft pink before falling to the ground. Every few hours the fruit litters the ground in a carpet of color until the main herd sweep through on their fruit circuit in search of apples, pears and plums.
Now that the plums are nearly exhausted, the apples are getting all the attention. The cows breeze by, hoovering up the fallen fruit. Some of the more skilled and experienced cows break away from the main herd and sneak over to grab a snack while the rest of the herd is busy nibbling on grass or brush along the fence line. The most covert cows can get their fill and get back to the herd without triggering the group to run the circuit along with the sneaker.
