Cloud Watching

Been spending time this last week watching the sky, the clouds in particular for rain. The forecasters had been saying we had a chance and any precipitation would be welcome indeed.

We saw lots of wispy clouds that looked like they were raining, called Virga when they rain but it does not hit the ground. The cloud bank thickened and the air felt as if it could rain but mostly we only had miniature specks of moisture now and again. We did get a trace one day and .02 of an inch on another before the system broke apart and we are once again back to warm, dry weather.

On another note, the cooler air had made it possible for several of the big fires burning in the state to slow their consumption and explosive growth with crews getting a better containment of some of them.
