Cleaning Up the Skid Road
Not just for esthetics, the process of limbing up the trees that line the skid road clear the path for the caterpillar to drag the logs from the area where they are logged to the landing at the bottom of the hill.
Using my chain saw I trimmed up from the bottom about 5 feet, then my right hand helper used the saw-on-a-stick (most people call it a pole saw) to limb up to the 9 foot level. This gives plenty of clearance for the cage of the bulldozer.
The limbs were dropped right onto the skid road since Mike will be able to use the blade of the dozer while dragging 5 trees behind him on the first pull out of the woods, thus cleaning up the path.
This pleasant day spent trimming went by quickly and we were able to complete this part of the road in 4 hours. After the hike up the hill, that was a full enough day for work.
