In the Woods

Butler’s Home Base

The dry forest is very noticeable where Mike has been using the skid roads to drag large logs out of the woods. The dirt is powdery and the logs dig deep trenches in what was fairly smooth paths, the logs plow their way along behind the bulldozer as Mike inches them out of the deep forest and up over the break of the hill on their downward path out the woods and to the log landing.

The Gator is having a hard time negotiating some of the roads until Mike comes along with the blade of the dozer to smooth the path again.

In the meantime, Butler the dog who loves to spend his forest time under the Gator in restful slumber, finds the trenches nearly deep enough to stand up in rather than squish himself under.

Butler may look uncomfortable, but the cool dirt under the Gator is a good place to hang out while he waits for us to finish our day of logging with a two hour fire watch at the end of the activities.

A doggie trench to almost stand up in. “What a nice thing for Mike to do,” says Butler.
