Bulls Adjusting

This has been a busy week in the bull pen. Several months ago we had a couple of the bulls sold but the new owners wanted to keep the bulls here on the farm until they were ready to have them transported to their new farm and position as herd sire.

We periodically moved the bulls from the swamp side pasture of the barn to under the tall fir tree pasture on the opposite side of the barn to assure they had fresh new grass to nibble as they continue to grow and mature. The bulls seem to know when it is time to change pastures because they huddle in the barn and keep testing the fence that distinguishes the one pasture from the other.

One of the bulls that had sold was scheduled to be picked up. Since the bull pen does not have a good area for loading animals, the batch of seven were moved to the show barn. #56 was sifted out of the batch and was securely detained while the rest of the six bulls were moved back out to the bull pen to readjust to life without one of the sparing partners.

The six acted like they had never seen this pasture before and went about investigating the swamp, the fences, the stumps and the large cedar piece that Mike had found last year buried in the muck.

The step up was quite high but one of the bulls decided that this was a good vantage point to oversee the rest of his buddies. With his front end higher than just being on the ground, he was able to keep an eye on what was going on while we got #56 loaded and hauled to his new farm.
