Beyond the FarmConservation and Stewardship

Award From CoCoRaHs

It was nice to get an email this week from the citizen science project that I have been involved in during the last several years.

CoCoRaHs stands for Community Collaborative Rain Hail and Snow Network

Volunteer Appreciation Program

Most of you have recently received an e-mail related to our newly enacted Volunteer Appreciation Program.  Although some individual states already do this, we recently combined the necessary elements of the database into our e-mail program, which enables us to recognize thresholds and different levels of volunteer activity.  Realizing that there will be some flaws, such as multiple stations and database typos in volunteer names, we had to start somewhere, and finalized on the following thresholds to recognize – related to the number of precipitation reports submitted: 100, 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000.

Each volunteer received their respective ‘certificate’ over the last few days (*improvements coming for printable versions), and from this point on you will receive a new certificate for the next level you achieve.

A note for the small handful of VERY SPECIAL volunteers who have submitted over 8000 reports: An e-mail from Nolan is coming soon.

If you did not receive the e-mail, it could be in your ‘junk’ folder, or you may have unsubscribed from our newsletter in the past.  Here is a link where you can re-subscribe and you should get your certificate the next time they are sent out, in about a month: https://www.cocorahs.org/Content.aspx?page=catch

Thank you to everyone, and please know that combined, your small effort each day makes a huge difference collectively, but we truly appreciate each and every individual that helps make this amazing network thrive.

My certificate was for 750 observations! I have had a lot of fun tracking the moisture falling here on the farm and have learned so much about how much of a difference can be noticed in different areas of the state and the country. It is most interesting to find the differences between topographical areas or a neighbor that lives less than a mile away!

Because of my tracking and reporting, I have found patterns that are very helpful in our day to day business of running the farm.

We appreciate every reader we have and love it when you spread the word about SchmidlinAngusFarms, fill out the FOLLOW information so you get each story right to your email each day and/or leave comments about the stories. I would also like to take a moment to thank those who click on the icon to do shopping with the affiliate, (clicking on the affiliate icon does not make you purchase, only gets you the their site) and sometimes I get a small commission from your purchases if you do shop, without a cost to you!
