And Around Again
I just had the clips removed from the heifers that we are weaning, got them cleaned up and sanitized, and already we are getting the next round of weaning started.
Bull calves from the main herd across the river, #’s 106 and 107 got their clips today while Uproar our calf that was born here by the house and has been a part of the show barn since then will get his clip in the morning.
Uproar will be the easiest of the three because he is used to eating in the manger with the other animals in the show barn and his head fits snugly in when locked. We also have the sneaking suspicion that his mother may already in the process of weaning him if he isn’t already. He eats hay and grain with gusto and is usually the first one of the bunch up from the woods when he hears me getting ready for meal time.
As soon as Mike hauls the load of cattle out of here this weekend, we will move the three bulls calves in together in the show barn so that I can get the clips removed and all three eating as pen mates before moving them to the bullpen.
