In the GardenIn the Woods

A Little More About That

The handy-dandy critter deter monitor that I had eluded to in a previous post was gifted temporarily after the device saved a cherry crop from a prized backyard tree. My friends had searched and found this little device online, once the successful cherry crop was over they handed the device to me to use in my blueberry patch. This years blueberry crop was non-existent, so I am trying it on other crops.

The lightweight device is less than a pound. It it attached to a stake that can be shoved into the ground. I put it atop the wire fence that my peas climb on so that it is aimed for the plum trees and below the filbert trees in the garden.
Right now, I am hoping to dissuade marauders from snagging all the plums, while deterring both Stellar Jays and squirrels from running off with the filberts(last year the critters won the entire crop).
Looking online there are many, many versions with prices ranging from $30 to $300 dollars with this one being about $40. Since the unit came to me without any instructions, I simply dialed up both sensing area and frequency and am hoping for the best.
Once I see how the unit does during plum and filbert season, I may just try to see if it works in the spring when the elk are trying to eat newly planted cedar trees.
