Good Start For Bull Ad

The ad in the Capital Press newspaper is just a week old so far and has triggered some good sales.

This week, while it has been too rainy and wet to get much of anything constructive done around the farm we were able to sell a bull each to two different buyers. Getting trailers backed into the loading bay has been a challenge with the road turning so very muddy, Mike has started using our trailer hitched to the tractor to have animals loaded. They first get a ride in our trailer from the barn to the driveway yard. Our trailer and the buyer’s trailer are snugged up together with open back doors facing each other so the middle gates can be opened up. The animals can then safely walk from one trailer to the other before doors are closed behind them and the animals ready to head to their new farm.

By getting those two out of the bull pen, we now have the room to wean the last batch of critters from across the river. And it just so happens that even though the ad itself is not responsible per se, we also sold two heifers from my show barn where they had been relaxing since being weaned a couple of months ago. This frees up room in the show barn as we gear up to ‘finish’ a couple of yearling heifers for harvest.

The finishing process is really up to the animal itself, we just make sure they have all the sweet hay, the grass seed screenings grain and fresh water they want to eat. They gain weight at a natural pace while still being able to produce lean, tender meat. The heifers will be harvested when they are about a year and a half old so they still have a couple of months to go.
