Spending The Profit

Mike is quick to remind me that the firewood project has not yet made a single cent so maybe the title should be Spending The Intended Profit, but a new piece of equipment has been purchased to aid in the firewood production.
A gas powered splitter in the landing. My new Super Split is a portable, table splitter that is lightweight and very fun to use.
The small white tank on the top of the motor is for fuel. It is so efficient that the gas usage is minimal while quickly splitting a cord of wood into firewood sized pieces and is designed for single person operation. The small tank will last through several cord of wood.
Instead of hydraulics like our old splitter, this unit uses kinetic energy to quickly send out a plunger that forces the wood past the splitting blade. Flywheels in the round portion of the unit store and release the kinetic energy. The unit is easily moved from one pile of 16 inch segments to the next. It is also much more accurate than me swinging wildly with a maul to break the rounds into split pieces.
