The Race Is On

Dozer dragging small logs down skid road. This is the look of a typical turn of small logs that are hooked to the back of the dozer by choker cables.
If hooked correctly, this pile of logs that are too small to ship to even the pulp mill will be dragged out of the woods and down to the landing where they will be made into firewood. If the chokers are not firmly attached to the logs, some may slip out leaving a messy trail of detritus to be snagged and dragged individually the next time the dozer comes back up the hill.
There is a rush to get the salvageable wood out of the forest for two reasons. The first being that the area where the logs are scattered needs to be cleaned up so that it can be replanted, and the skid roads will not be drive-able by dozer or tractor or Gator once the fall rains start.
