In the Woods

While On Patrol

In the mornings while the cutters and processors are working on the other side of the woods, I have time to do a little salvage cleanup. Trees that have fallen over completely or are too small to use for the pulp logs are designated to become firewood to heat our house during the winter months.
Firewood loaded into Gator.Once the work is done for the day, someone gets to spend time on fire watch (a requirement during fire season). All saws have to be shut down before the fire watch begins.
When I am on fire watch duty, I have time to gather small loads of firewood and bring them off the hill when I am done with my shift.
Much of this wood has been dead for a least a year and is bone dry, while some are the tops and very large branches off the big trees and are very wet and have green needles. The mix of wet and dry all get stacked together by the outdoor wood furnace that supplies our household heat.
