The View From The Window

Flowering daphne bushes.I am mesmerized by the flowering Daphne bushes that are outside my dining room window. The sweet scent of the plantsĀ  attracts swarms of honey bees, bumble bees, small dark colored butterflies, hummingbirds and many Swallowtail butterflies.Butterfly on flowering plant.
The bushes are alive with buzzing, fluttering, hovering and dive-bombing.
The Swallowtails seem to dance around the plants usually as single creatures but sometimes with 2 or 3 of them trying to get to the same flower. We are finding the multitudes fascinating to watch especially when 10 or more are cavorting around the bushes at the same time. We are noticing distinct patterns or subtle color hues on some of the frequent flyers and can pick out individuals from time to time. But this is only when the sun is shining on the plants, when the afternoon shadows from the house shade the plants, the activity comes to a stop and awaits a new day.
