#99 Softly and Maxwell

#99 Softly figured out a way to make the morning chores take twice as long as normal. The evening before she forded the river. We had been having quite a bit of rain this last week and the water level was up. After crossing the river she went into labor and had her calf under the big old fir tree. It was a nice location, close enough to watch the river with a view of the county road on the other side.
Black Angus cow with newborn calf under big fir tree.Mike loaded the calf into the Gator and I climbed on top to keep the baby from jumping up and we drove over the bridge to the correct side of the river.
We unloaded the baby along the river on the far side and waited for #99 to see her baby and come running over. There was a lot of bellowing from the cow, she was distressed that we took off with her newborn, but she finally saw her baby and she swam right over.
Once reunited, the two were put into the barn just to make sure the baby and mother had a little time to bond before putting them into the nursery field with the other cow/calf pairs.
Welcome to the farm, Maxwell. Born 4/16/2018 and weighing in at 86 lbs.
