Frozen Cherry

Phooey. We had a pretty good frost the other night and it nipped the blossoms on my cherry tree.

Near the top of the picture you can see (just barely) the tree little cherries that had already set on before the frost. I guess that means I don’t have to worry about tenting the tree with netting to keep the birds away from the ripening fruit.

The tree is a self-pollinating variety called Stella, so we only needed one tree. We have had it planted for three years now. Last year was our first harvest and it was a constant battle between humans and avians. It was a fierce struggle, the birds won. I was determined that this year would be different. Well, I got what I wanted….
