Declaring War With The Canadians

Mowing down Canadian Thistles with tractor. Now I hold no ill will against our neighbors to the North just the thistles that share their name.

During the hot weather the Canadian Thistles have jumped to heights as tall as my tractor and are very thick. Mowing them down with the rotary mower is slow because these are small areas around the river where sandy loam has had thistle seeds deposited from the high water of winter. There are lots of brush, washed in logs, sand banks and alder trees that I have to mow around.

Many times, I find that it is easier to drive backward to get the mower closer to the objects in my path. Hopefully I’m catching the purple blooms before they are mature enough to spread their seeds for future generations.
