Water Resources

The natural resources on the farm are not taken for granted. Re-using and recycling are daily rituals. Our access to fresh water for the main herd is considered a valuable resource. At the base of the hill below the stand of fir trees, a spring is tamed for a constant supply of water.

It is not fancy, but by re-purposing an old bathtub and used field tiles made from clay, the little stream of water is contained. The bathtub is tipped slightly back toward the hill so the overflow doesn’t create a large mud hole in front of the tub.

During the hot summer days, the herd lounges under the big fir trees in the shade while having fresh water close by.
