Quad of Kittens

The four new kittens have settled in nicely. All that hissing, spitting and scratching has subsided and they are having a blast hanging out by the back of the house.

Their favorite spot is on, under and around the big, old split-log that I have sitting on a cradle of wooden blocks that I use as a yard bench. The kittens are just starting to play with pouncing and rolling their opponent. Lots of tail twitching and sideways hopping going on.

When they move away from the log, they head for the wildflower patch. The California poppies are such a big tangle that the kittens act like they are in their very own jungle, working paths through the dense brush. Sometimes, the only way I know they are out there is that the flowers are moving wildly high above them.

We have been introducing them to the dogs with highly controlled introductions. Jackson doesn’t seem interested at all except to sniff behinds. Butler acts afraid of the 4 and would rather hunker under the picnic table to watch the kittens as they play.

The kittens seem to be always hungry and even in between bites, they will scamper off to play for a minute before coming back to eat.

They will be moved to the barn as soon as we get the hay stacked in. We were worried that if we tried to move them out there now, they would be in danger with hay equipment and people coming and going with loads to fill the barn. In the meantime, we will enjoy the cat antics while they are here by the house.
