Enough For A Mole Stole
Mike has set a lot of mole traps over the years. There had been a time when he contracted to help a farmer out on Sauvie Island with his mole issue. Mike would go over there a couple times a week and run the traps, remove the caught carcasses and reset the traps. Here on the farm he has to get after the pesky varmints on a much lesser scale although it is important to keep up on them or they can take over a pasture. The mounds are a nuisance. The tunnels below the mounds are spots that the cows or people can step into and twist an ankle. The dirt of the mounds make the hay harvest harder by dulling the blades of the mower and binding up the baler.
This time of the year with mild weather, the mole population is very active and mounds are popping up everywhere. It is time again to dig out the traps and get to work.
This mole was caught just feet from our kitchen window in the lawn along side the house and he has several buddies that are working their way along the pollinator hedgerow. Although not quite enough critters have been caught for a mole stole just yet although he keeps promising/threatening to do so, Mike will keep after them until they power down for the cold winter and we will have to keep an eye out for workings as the months go by so we don’t have a over-population explosion in the spring.
Mike’s promise of a mole stole would be good as long as he is the one to chew the hide to make it supple
