New Glasses Won’t Help

The breeze that was not quite strong enough to be classified as a wind was blowing fine but steady rain droplets made it hard to feed the main herd for dinner. I was on the back of the Gator doling out the slabs and getting pretty damp. The cows were all wet and drippy. The hay was sticking to my hands, my pants, my stocking hat, my glasses, the Gator and not falling to the ground as I wanted.

For some reason, I can’t recall why, Mike called to me from the driver seat to get an identification on the cow that was following the Gator just mere inches from my attempting to feed.

I called to the driver seat that I could not get a positive read on her ear tag.

Mike wanted to know why not. First of all, insert first paragraph here. Second of all, I could not see worth a hoot from my glasses covered in bits of hay that were stuck to the lenses. The cow was all drippy with dampness, her ear hair was hanging limply and obscuring the tag number and I could not even tell if there was a number on the tag at all (some of the more senior cows have had their numbers fade over the years).

I even snapped a picture to blow up the image when I got to the house and was still unable to identify this momma. Luckily, Mike was able to get a good look at her about an hour later and did get a positive identification from the look of her walk and profile as she moved out of the clump of critters and into the open field.
