Low River Levels

The river level is very low at this time, it doesn’t even look like a river. I was asked recently if it was a fork or tributary of the Nehalem rather than the river itself.

One look shows that it has been a very dry year, actually a couple of very dry years. The channel that holds the river during this time of year is only ankle deep at some of the crossings.

It is going to take some really good storm systems coming in from the ocean to supply enough water for the big salmon to make their way upstream this far. Last year, the salmon run was spectacular, the most fish we had seen in several years and their were two distinct runs, an early fall that was tremendous and late fall that looked like our normal run.
