Pears Getting Bigger

The last couple of weeks have showed a growth spurt for the pears. What were small and really green have doubled in size. The odd sized and misshapen duds are falling this week.

The dogs are noticing the pears just as we are and they spend their day under the tree waiting for one to fall so they can eat it before we get a chance to grab it. The pears are not ripe yet, but they are close enough for the dogs.

As the week goes on I will try to capture as many of the good ones as I can so they can be set on a table to ripen. Once they are ripe, sweet and soft I can use them for pear bread, pear upside down cake and for dehydrating. If I get really rambunctious I could make some pear butter for breakfast pancakes, but I’m not sure how much time I will be able to devote to the fruit.
