New Prune Challenges

After our late night raccoon hunts, we believed we had an upper hand on keeping the prune crop on the tree until ripening. That was when we noticed the squadron of crows. They are sensing the raccoons are not longer a deterrence and the crows have been landing en-masse in the tree and knocking down half ripened fruit faster than the raccoons were eating them.

Mike was back on the hunt and got one of the slower birds.

With baling twine ( what else would one use when stringing up a no good marauder?) this dead bird was hung in the low branches of the tree to dissuade any of the crows from messing around with the fruit.

For right now, the tree seems to be safe while the fruit continues to ripen. It is still another week or two before I will get busy picking.
