Cows Do Also
In order to move the main herd from one area of grazing to another we sometimes have to push them along the landing where Mike has been bringing the trees off the hillside.
Each day there are new configurations of trees, some full length and even some with the limbs still attached. The cows and calves enjoy nibbling on the green branches and can’t help but use the bushy limbs to head butt and crawl under to assist their tails in sweeping away unwanted flies.
When a log already has been cut and limbs removed, the critters rub those itchy spots on faces, necks and back ends. I’m sure the crew at the mill can smell not only the sharp pitchy tang, but fresh cow manure that bovines large and small love to spread around.
The landing is only a temporary distraction for the herd, before long they move along to the large pasture in the back of field where they can graze to their hearts are content and their bellies are full.
