Summer If You Ask Him
Jackson, the farm dog that loves the river, is not about waiting until the hot days of harvest time to begin his daily plunges into the frigid Nehalem River. He does care if the sun is shining, if it is raining or a cold and windy day, it is swimming time for him.
It is not just a daily thing, he dives right in several times throughout the day. When he gets thirsty he gets right up to his belly before getting a good lap or two of water.
He is not a dog that likes to shake off when he leaves the river, but drip dries as he runs around or naps. His favorite spot to nap is the too small, plastic molded, dog shelter. He crawls in there while still dripping wet and emerges an hour later fairly dry and steaming from the moisture as it tries to evaporate.
Summer is simply a state of mind for this farm dog.
Did Jackson learn not to shake dry after being yelled at a few times? A wet dog that drips dry is certainly a more enjoyable companion .
He comes by not shaking naturally. We joke that he may be part amphibian since he prefers to always be damp.
